Helen of Troy!

The fairest maiden who ever lived

Sought by suitors far and wide

Was united in wedlock with the King of Sparta

And came to be known as the Spartan pride

.

But then this enchantress Helen, eloped with

Paris, the handsome Trojan prince

To evoke in the bosom of Sparta

Hatred for Troy ever since

.

Tempers rose and the royal blood boiled

And Menelaus spat with fury

With blood shot eyes he swore to Gods

That he’d take revenge for this injury

.

Menelaus the King of Sparta

Called his allies from all over Greece

Who swore their alliance to destroy Troy

And that marked the end of peace

.

Fifty thousand men lined up on the shore

Ready to sail for one man’s pride

Ready to fight, to kill, to die

Because one man couldn’t keep his bride

.

Troy prepared for battle too

A battle that went on for 10 long years

Headed by Hector the crown prince of Troy

Headed for a battle so unnerving, so fierce

.

Many fine warriors came to fight

Achilles, the finest of them all

Fought for Greece against Troy

To destroy a civilization bring its fall

.

Laurels, glory and martyrdom

Were won by those whose lives were laid

And best of all by Hector the great

When at hands of Achiles he was slayed

.

Achilles the invncible, too met his doom

By an arrow shot in his heel

From Paris’ bow to avenge his brother

Which forced the Greek army to kneel

.

Heroes dies and strenghts were low

And there was no end to this war of wars

So Odyssey’s matchless wit was sought

And he came up with the Trojan horse

.

Trickery won this game of fate

In a few hours the tables were turned

The Trojan horse marked the turn of history

While Troy was plundered, looted and burned

.

All for one woman and wounded pride

For enchanting deceitful unchaste lips

Empires crumbled and immortalised Helen

As the face that launched a thousand ships

.

But men always love wars and fights

And seek petty reasons to destroy

So blame it on them or on cruel fate

Or on the legendary Helen of Troy!
